Lot of 3 Ancient Peruvian Polychrome Textile Fragments

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Huari (Wari), ca. 700 to 1000 CE; North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE; Central Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A wonderful ensemble of 3 textile fragments which are tightly-woven from camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of vermilion, citrine, wheat, coffee, fuchsia, pearl, and aqua. First is a small Huari fragment featuring a trio of highly-abstract anthropomorphic figures with sinuous limbs and rectangular heads. Second is a large Chancay panel displaying 13 abstract shamanic figures atop a brown ground, most seated with feathered headdresses and holding a short staff. Last is a lengthy Chimu sash strip exhibiting dozens of petite avian figures in red and beige hues atop a golden-yellow ground with frilled peripheries. Size of largest (Chancay): 9.375" W x 9.25" H (23.8 cm x 23.5 cm).

All items are fragments of larger textiles. Each item has losses to some peripheral threads, loosening to some interior threads, light fading to original pigmentation, and light staining. Colors and iconography are still visible and vivid.
