Egypt, Late Period, ca. 664 to 332 BC. A truly lovely necklace comprising rare coral and faience bead spacers; cylindrical spherical beads are pure earthy colors the Egyptians associated with magical power. The black beads represented the rich alluvial soil from the Nile floods, essential to grow crops, the warm blues and greens representing new life, rejuvenation, rebirth. The red coral represented power.
