Lot 0193 Details

Description
This is the Holy Grail of U.S. Navy Mark V diving knives. A non-magnetic WWII FISCHER SPRINGS, N.Y. Beryllium blade model, with the name and Mil Spec contract number C-713051 set in the blade. These were issued for divers doing Explosive Ordinance Disposal diving during and after WWII. This was a very niche group of divers, which included those that used the Buie helmet, and so very few were manufactured making them highly collectible. Almost all are in high-end international knife collections, in which they are a central holding. They seldom appear on the market. The knife is New Old Stock (NOS) and the straight edge blade has never been sharpened. The wooden handle has two fine hairline cracks, approximately 1 inch long each, probably because of storage and the wood not being fed over its approximately 80 year life. The sheath is unmarked, with zero wear on the surface. The knife disassembles easily and the blade shows with the name and contract number clearly legible. An authoritative knife web site states: Copper Beryllium is a rarely-encountered blade material that you will not find for sale at Blade HQ any time soon. It is highly corrosion-resistant and nonmagnetic and it does not spark. This makes it perfect for SEALS and underwater EOD specialists. A rare opportunity to acquire an unused, unsharpened, NOS, Holy Grail of USN diving knives.
