Lot 0004 Details

Description
As pugs have been a popular breed for centuries, their pushed-in muzzles, small ears and endearing eyes have made for irresistible appeal for dog fanciers. In this Victorian 19th century majolica model, the dog was hand-painted in a soft brown color with black feet, muzzle and eyes. The artist modelled her with a cute curled tail and a large pink bow on her collar, with two pink bells on either side of the bow. The dog’s chest is fawn colored. The collar is a pale yellow that contrasts nicely with the bow and bells.; This is a very well-modeled dog with much attention to detail in the facial features and in the ears. It dates to around 1870.; It is in excellent original condition. There is a small factory fault on the right leg of a bubble that had burst, and there is a minute loss of glaze on one paw. However, these faults are barely noticeable. Luckily, this dog had been heavily glazed at the factory, which protected the paint work for the last 150 or so years. Considering its age, it is a very fine example to add to any collection.; This beauty measures about 7-3/4 inches high, 5 inches wide and 6-1/4 inches deep.
