Description
Framed map, Novissima et Accuratissima totius Americae Descripto, Amsterdam circa 1670, Frederick De Wit (1630 - 1706), double-page engraved New World (North and South American), illustrated with ships & cartouches partly colored, depicting California as an island, the Great Lakes as separate bodies of water, ships on the Atlantic & Pacific, wild animals on the New Continent, cartouches of Indians & angels, two ships are added in ''Oceanus Peruvianus'', this is the second state of the map, with the two ships removed, and some changes in the geography, the map is a revised version of Visscher's map of 1670, with changed shape of California (i.e., indented northern coast) and partially reversed title cartouche (chief under umbrella now to left of text), Visscher's dedication cartouche (upper left) now has reversed figures and contains descriptive text on America, Zelandia Nova is not present, Frame: 29''h x 31.5''w, Sight: 19.5''h x 23''w
