Lot 2037003 Details

Description
GODDARD, ROBERT H. Alternative Forms. A single sheet with detailed manuscript notes on alternatives to Goddard's valve designs. Written in pencil on evenly browned paper. Approximately 5x8 inches.

Goddard recorded several comments on "Alternative Forms" of his turbine and valve designs. Two turbine notes read in part: "(a) Turbines run by main chamber. Chamber turbine drive reducing valve. Normally open, and closed by pressure." "(b) Turbines run by a small turbine chamber. Water, oxygen, and gasoline reducing valves. The 2-ply bellows, B, is difficult . . " "Each valve is held by a tension spring . . engaging the lever arm" "No main valves will be needed, if the reducing valves show strength enough."???
On the reverse side, titled "Valves." Goddard makes reference notes to his design drawings from "page (1)" and "page (2)." Notes reference both the main and tank valves. Additional notes are on the "Nitrogen 35 lb reducing valves."
These notes reflect the effort and refinement necessary to create a dependable working rocket engine by Goddard.
