Description
AUDUBON, John James. "The Birds of America from Drawings Made in the United States and Their Territories". New York: George R. Lockwood, Late Roe Lockwood & Son, [1870-71]. Eight volumes. Royal octavo, 7 1/4" x 12", publisher’s full brown morocco, elaborately decorated in blind, raised bands, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Minor wear to bindings.
Lockwood Audubon, the final octavo edition, containing 500 superb tinted and hand colored lithographic plates printed by J.T. Bowen of Philadelphia, with numerous in-text anatomical wood-engravings. A lovely set, bright and fine in handsome publisher’s morocco bindings. Bookplate of Frank Harrold Sellers, Harvard Class of 1888.
