Lot 0003 Details

Description
Western Asia 7th cent. B.C..
Fine light clay, made from a patrix. L. 14.7 cm. H. 10.4 cm
The mould is rectangular in shape. The lion strides aggressively to the left, his head outstretched with mouth open in a roar. The fur on his throat is short, while the head and shoulder mane is shaggy and extends over the shoulder blades. The ears point forwards and the tail is menacingly erect. Fur on mane and belly offset from the smooth coat by ornamentally curved ridges. Negative for the manufacture of a clay relief. Condition: Slightly worn, otherwise still sharp.
