Description
J.M. Basquiat, SAMO IS DEAD over the early 1980, Lenin Coca Cola street art (unknow artist) image designed in 1980 by the Russian Vladimir Kozlovsky, developed the project of a billboard for Times Square in 1982. Later, all the attempts to install a Lenin Coca Cola billboard did not succeed. In 1983 Public Art Fund rejected the proposal with the same response to it in 1985. street art on HUGE real COCA COLA metal sign, dimensions L 53 ½ x H 17 ½ inches, weight approx. 10 lbs. Condition: signs of wear and age, multiple scratches, bend, missing paint and rusty. Sale it as it is, finale sale, please read our terms and conditions. Provenance: Private collection, USA. Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960 - 1988) was an American artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent. Basquiat first achieved fame as part of SAMO, an informal graffiti duo who wrote enigmatic epigrams in the cultural hotbed of the Lower East Side of Manhattan during the late 1970s, where rap, punk, and street art coalesced into early hip-hop music culture. By the 1980s, his neo-expressionist paintings were being exhibited in galleries and museums internationally.
