Antique 1855 engraving

Portrait of James Stewart, Earl of Murray, Regent of Scotland 1531-1570, engraved by T.W. Knight, 1855 (active 1840-1860) after the original painting in Holyrood House, Edinburgh, stipple engraving on heavy stock paper, original tissue guard is present.

James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray (c. 1531 - 21 January 1570) half brother of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, who became regent of Scotland after her abdication; a member of the House of Stewart as the illegitimate son of King James V, was Regent of Scotland for his half-nephew, the infant King James VI of Scotland, from 1567 until his assassination in 1570 in Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland.
