Description
Lot consists of: (A) World War II US M1 front seam fixed bale helmet shell with painted medical cross and liner. The helmet's heat stamp is no longer visible but the helmet liner is marked with the Westinghouse Electric Company "W". CONDITION: The steel shell is in good condition and does not display any dents. The shell does show decent paint loss and the steel rim appears to have been repainted at some point. It was not uncommon for soldiers to repaint the steel rims of M1 helmets in the field. The medical cross appears to be a period painted insignia. The interior of the shell shows corrosion and rusting. Chinstrap is still sturdy. Liner is in good condition but displays various scratches and scuffs from being removed from the steel shell. The liner still retains its original sturdy hardware. Leather sweatband shows significant cracking. Overall good condition. (B) World War II US M1 front seam fixed bale helmet shell with liner. The helmet is marked with the heat stamp "618B" and the helmet liner is marked with the Westinghouse Electric Company "W". CONDITION: The shell is in very good condition and retains most of its original paint inside and out. There are a few stray paint blemishes on the exterior. The chinstrap is still sturdy and in very good condition. The liner is in decent condition and shows paint loss and scratches from service wear. There are two stress cracks on the right side of the liner. The interior of the liner is incomplete as the helmet is missing some of the hardware. Overall good condition. JD Condition: Dimensions:
