Description
A beautiful Roman glass cosmetic vessel, 5th Century AD, in light blue-green, central compartment wound with horizontal bands of threading with rounded rim and wide base. The handle is quite elaborate with two loops descending vertically down the body in a ribbon-like fashion and surmounted by a third loop that serves as the handle. A lovely vessel and a great example of the types popular in the late Roman empire. H: 7 1/4 in (18.3 cm). Well-preserved with mineral deposits. Ex collection of Ivor Noel Hume; Ex-The Universal Art Gallery, Frederick H. North, London, 1950.
