Description
oil on canvas, 24 x 32 in; framed: 33 x 41.5 in; very good, Alexander Dzigurski was a landscape and seascape artist born in Stari Becej, Yugoslavia, but later on settled in Detroit, MI; California. He studied at the School of Art, Belgrade and the Academy of Art, Munich, Germany. He was a member of the Fine Arts Institute in Los Angeles, the Am. A. Prof. League, and the Society of Western Artists. He worked at the Belgrade Art Museum in Yugoslavia and the Ford Museum, Detroit.He traveled widely in the U.S., painting in the Rocky Mountains, Grand Tetons, Glacier National Park, New England and along the coasts. Dzigurski started out his career in his native Yugoslavia by decorating the interior of churches, which he continued in the U.S. after he and his family had fled from Tito's communist regime via Italy. By 1952 he could afford to travel and paint landscapes, settling in Calif. Position: staff, Intl. Art Publishing Company, Detroit.
