Dimensions: 18-3/4" H x 15-1/2" Dia.
Majestic, Pair of Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Famous JiaJing blue and white dragon jars. Potted in cylinder vessel, jar shape, large, having thick and tall potted body, sturdily potted in a bulbous body, ovoid belly, heavy on shoulder gently tapered on short neck toward opening mouth prominent, with reverse bowl dome lid finial bud, and raised on flat round foot base. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in cobalt blue underglazed, depicted of snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark blue color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
Mark on under base, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, JiaJing Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
