Don DeFore's Silver Banjo Entrance Sign.

Lot 0438 Details

Description
(Disneyland, 1957) The original lighted entrance sign for Don DeFore's Silver Banjo Barbecue in Frontierland. From 1957 to 1962, this banjo-shaped sign hung over the popular restaurant, inviting guests in for a meal presented by popular film and television star, Don DeFore. The restaurant closed in 1961 to allow for an expansion of Aunt Jemima's Kitchen. Original artifacts from this short-lived early Frontierland location are some of the most difficult to come by. This one-of-a-kind original sign features hand-painted lettering and a metal body, and has been fitted with an electrical plug for a stunning lighted display. Following the closure of the restaurant, DeFore kept this sign and displayed it for many years in his home. This sign comes from the collection of Disneyland historian and author of "Growing Up in Disneyland," Ron DeFore, Don DeFore's son. Measuring approximately 58" tall, the sign is in very good overall condition with expected minor wear throughout from use and age. This item will require special shipping arrangements, please inquire for details and estimates.
