CIVIL WAR ERA CDV CABINET CARD GENERALS, OFFICER

Lot of five Civil War era carte de visite images and one cabinet card image, etching portraits of generals and one army officer. To include:

  • Charles Pomeroy Stone (1824-1887), Union General, noted for construction of base of Statue of Liberty 1884, fought in Mexican-American war, served in California 1851-1855, surveryor in 1857-1860, general in Civil War, served in Egyptian Army 1870-1883. Photo by Anthony of New York. "Stone U.S.A." notated on front, some pencil notations to reverse.
  • Henry Wager Halleck (1815-1872), army officer, soldier, teacher, writer and lawyer. Secretary of State of California, comander of department of Missouri 1862 and general-in-chief to Lincoln. Cheif of Staff 1864, commander of Division of the Pacific 1865, Division of the South, 1869. Pencil notation on reverse.
  • Two images of Joe Johnson (1807-1891), Confederate general, wounding in Seminole Indian War 1838, found in Mexican-American war, wounded at Seven Pines, Virginia, turned army over to Lee in 1862. Commander of Department of West in late 1862, Commanded Army of Tennessee late 1863-1865. Includes a trimmed cabinet card. Pencil notation to reverse.
  • Gouverneur K. Warren (1830-1882), Union general. Credited with saving the day for Union at Gettyburg by ordering troops to seize the Round Tops before Confederate troops occupied the tops. Inaccurate card title reads "F.K. Warren", though this is G.K. Warren.
