Lot 0296 Details

Description
A 3-piece child’s tea set (teapot, creamer and sugar bowl) in the American Historical Staffordshire “Columbia Star” Pattern, by John Ridgeway, c. 1840. The transfers on all three pieces depict a log cabin which refers to the 1840 Presidential Campaign of William Henry Harrison; the cabin represents his connection to the “common man.” The pattern takes its name from the star and swag border on each piece.; All 3 pieces are in very fine or better condition. There is some minor restoration to the lid of the sugar bowl, but the base and the other 2 pieces are free of cracks, chips, discoloration, restoration, etc. The teapot is about 4 ½” high and 6” from handle to spout; the sugar bowl is 3 ½” high and 4 ½” from handle to handle and the little creamer is 3” high and 3” from handle to spout. This is a highly sought-after child’s historical Staffordshire tea set. Interestingly, Ridgway made his children’s tea sets in 2 distinct forms, one represented by the teapot and creamer (basically hexagonal shape) and the other represented by the teapot (more rectangular in shape).
