Description
A Fine Bronze Dogon Horse & Rider Sculpture, Mali, Africa. The presence of horses in the Dogon region can be dated back over 1000 years, thought uncommon, an image of a Horse and rider such as this was placed on a shrine and was intended as a medium to the spirit world and used in ancestor worship. The rider is often said to represent a Hogon, a supreme spiritual leader in the village. It would be fitting that the Hogon would ride through the ethereal world to the realm of the spirits to converse and bring back esoteric knowledge and wisdom. The sculpture measures 3.5 x 3.5 inches.
