Description
FD-46, FD-48 and FD-49 Vintage 1967 Family Dog Concert Posters (3). A trio of original second-printing San Francisco concert posters for various bands playing at the Avalon Ballroom from the personal archives of Bob Cohen, the man who co-owned the Family Dog and ran it with Chet Helms from early 1966 until the firm's demise in late 1968. FD-46 features Country Joe & the Fish, Sparrow featuring John Kay who later formed & fronted Steppenwolf, and Epic Records act Kaleidoscope featuring future Jackson Browne guitar-legend sidekick David Lindley, all at the Avalon on Friday and Saturday, February 3-4, 1967. FD-48 has Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin, Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Oxford Circle at the Avalon on Friday and Saturday, February 17-18, 1967. And FD-49 advertises Moby Grape and the Charlatans at the Avalon on Friday and Saturday, February 24-25, 1967. FD-46 measures 14 1/8" x 20" and grades to Near Mint condition for a one-inch surface crease in the blue between the two orange stars above the lower-right circle, and the tiniest possible bump to the upper right corner. FD-48 measures 20" x 13 15/16" and grades to Near Mint condition for a bumped, creased upper left corner and a related edge crease three inches down from that. The rest of the poster is flawless. And FD-49 measures 14" x 20" and grades to lovely Mint condition. COAs from Bob Cohen and from Heritage Auctions.
