Lot 0005 Details

Description
Female Nude, 1968. Signed LK, numbered VI, dated 68. Patinated Bronze. Height 17.5 in. Height overall on a wood base 25 in. Cf. As put forth by Kestenbaum Art Studios, located in San Miquel De Allende: Lothar Kestenbaum, born Berlin, Germany in 1926. He studied at Hochschule fur Bildende Kunste, (Fine Arts Academy) in Berlin. In 1967, the artist moved to Mexico. For many years prior to his death, he held the Chair of Sculpture at the Instituto de Bellas Artes. Arguably, Lothar Kestenbaum was the finest sculptor ever to have worked in San Miguel de Allende. His sculptures in bronze and marble have been exhibited to acclaim in Europe and the Americas. His works are important parts of collections in Germany, England, Canada, the United States and Mexico. As he sculpted Lothar could see the form in the substance with which he worked. With great attention to shape, texture, patina, his artistic sensibility and technical virtuosity led him to produce art that opens windows on the very soul.
