SOUVENIR PIECE OF REMAGEN BRIDGE

Lot 0893 Details

Description
Rare fragment from the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen, the last standing on the Rhine which allowed Allied troops to cross into occupied Germany for the first time, placed within clear plastic and converted into a souvenir paperweight. The side of the paperweight bears a wooden peg, which when removed, reveals a curled Certificate of Authenticity by Remagen mayor Hans Peter Kurten, affirming that 'this stone was part of the piers supporting the historic Ludendorff Bridge...' Providing additional provenance is a typed letter from Kurten to Prof. R. WAYNE SNIDER, thanking him for sending payment and forwarding 'the two bridge stones', certainly including the stone in this lot. Directly from the estate of Prof. R. WAYNE SNIDER (1928 - 2020), a founder of Grace Theological Seminary and a Professor of History for over fifty years at Grace College in Indiana.
