KLANSMEN'S PATCH AND CONFEDERATE FLAG

Lot 1098 Details

Description
Chilling pair of cloth items once belonging to members of the Ku Klux Klan, including: 'Blood Drop Cross' patch, 5 in. dia., showing a white cross with black outlines surrounded by red embroidery, bearing an embroidered 'blood drop' at center. One stain, else fine. Sold with a cotton Confederate battle flag, 36 x 60 in., bearing a white cotton hoist with two grommets for hanging. One side of the hoist bears a serial number ink stamp 'RN-23014' near a manufacturer's tag, reading: 'Sherritt Flag Company, Flag Mfg. since 1922...Richmond, VA'. Some holes, notably stained. The clearly-aged flag was sent to us within a large grouping of Klan material, thus we believe it to have once belonged to a Klansman, potentially during the Klan's rebirth in the 1920s. Given the lack of direct provenance, however, the flag itself is sold as is.
