Description
American Revolution
American Revolutionary War Spontoon Pike Head Weapon
c. 1775 American Revolutionary War Era, Spontoon Pike Head, Hand-forged in Wrought Iron, 12" Long, Fine.
This example is similar to those seen in numerous reference books on weapons of the period, also seen illustrated in "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George Neumann. This weapon has some interesting design characteristics including a leaf shaped blade and formed socket collar. It has a rarely encountered added shaped guard to be used a defensive element against opponents blades. The surface quality has old patina, typical wear and remains in overall original condition. This type was used by officers, affixed to a long wooden pole. It was a simple yet highly effective weapon of the American military during the Revolutionary War period.
