Description
C. AD 618 - 907. Chinese Tang Dynasty. A set of 12 comprising animal figures, each carefully modelled and dressed in court robes, painted in a range of rich yellows, reds and cremes with blue, green and pink, red and black accents. The Chinese zodiac is a classification scheme based on the lunar calendar that assigns an animal to each year in a twelve-year cycle. These beautiful items would perhaps have once served as a reminder of the importance of personal piety and would make an excellent addition to any modern collection.Two randomly chosen figures have been precisely dated having undergone Thermo Luminescence analysis by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. Its TL certificate with full report will also accompany this lot. Good condition.Size: L:Set of 12: 445mm / W:150mm ; 40.8kg; Provenance; Property of a Central London gallery, acquired from an established English collection; formerly acquired in Hong Kong, Hollywood Antique Center in the early 1990s.
