Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), Chaco style, ca. 975 to 1150 CE. A small hand-built pottery vessel with a globular body, two lugged handles, and a small neck and lip. The exterior is painted with dark brown to black pigments that create lovely zigzagging lines and triangular shapes on a gray-white ground; classic Chaco style geometric motifs. Anasazi pottery was created by coiling clay and smoothing the surface before painting, then finally firing. Anasazi pottery was an invaluable utilitarian item for storing agricultural goods as well as a commodity for trading. Size: 4.9" W x 4.75" H (12.4 cm x 12.1 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection; found on the Hinkson Ranch, Apache County, Arizona, USA; ex- Aaron Brady collection, purchased in November 2018
