Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Four Corners region, New Mexico, Chaco Canyon area, Pueblo I/II (Anasazi) period, ca. 900 to 1030 CE. A beautiful pottery pitcher of a substantial form with a flat base, a carinated lower body with a tapered shoulder, a cylindrical neck, and a strap handle on the verso. The white-hued vessel is decorated with 3 bands of black-painted geometric motifs along the exterior surfaces, and the handle exhibits a minimalist double-diamond pattern on the convex surface. Two pairs of drilled stabilization holes are present along the upper rim. The Red Mesa Black-on-White pottery style is most famously excavated at the great Anasazi city of Chaco Canyon. Size: 6.2" W x 7.5" H (15.7 cm x 19 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection; ex-Eric Schaefer collection, purchased in 2007
