Item Details
Description
Northern Europe, Viking period, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A quartet of items that would have been essential in a Viking household: three iron blades, probably used in cooking, and a pair of scissors which would have belonged to a Viking woman. Two of the knives feature a longer blade with a short tang; the other has three openings through its elongated tang and a triangular shaped blade sharpened on one side. The scissors feature large looped handles and time has frozen them in an open position. These would have been worn on a belt and treasured, used for cutting thread and leather and mending clothes. Many women's graves from this period contain scissors like these. Size of largest: 10.75" L (27.3 cm)
