Miniature Roman Leaded Bronze Female - Diana / Artemis

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A miniature leaded bronze female figure, probably representing Diana (Greek Artemis) - goddess of the hunt, finely cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process. She is presented in an upright pose with her right arm bent at the elbow to reach into a quiver behind her back and her left hand raised and positioned in a grip, as if she once held a bow or arrow. She looks forward with a focused visage - her elegant facial features well delineated and crowned by a centrally-parted coiffure that is rolled back from her forehead. Her wonderfully posed body is covered by flowing garments with billowing drapery folds that are belted at the waist. A lovely example from ancient Rome! Size: .625" W x .125" H (1.6 cm x 0.3 cm)
