Description

CLIVE BARKER (British b. 1940) A SCULPTURE, "Portrait of Francis Bacon," CIRCA 1978, bronze, artist stamp at base of neck. Height: 26" Width: 39" Depth: 39" Note: Depicting a full bronze sculpture taken from a life mask of the painter Francis Bacon under an umbrella, an object which frequently appears in Bacon's work. Clive Barker created six bronze and six plaster versions of a life mask of Francis Bacon. Both artists completed several portrait works of one another. There was a second edition of three further bronzes made. Provenance: Estate of David E. Brauer, Houston, Texas.

Condition

Tip of umbrella broken, apparent adhesive substance used previously to reattach, minor surface wear commensurate with age, generally in good condition. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
