  • Title: Eliza C. Mccullough Family Record Samplerli>Description: Family Record Sampler. Tuckerton, New Jersey dated 1838. . The sampler is inscribed at the top: Made by E C Mc / In Tuckerton N J 1838, below that are 11 rows of family record information. The bottom half features pictorial motifs including a shepherd with his dog, sheep, a baby lamb, birds and flowers. The sampler is surrounded on three sides with a foliate border and across the bottom is a sawtooth and star border.. . Eliza worked this sampler at age 12 or 13 and was one of six girls and two boys born to Hannah Rockhill and Joseph McCullow. The family lived in Tuckerton, NJ, which is a port town on the New Jersey shore. . . Silk and wool on linen; 28 1/4" x 33 1/2" sight, 35 5/8" x 40 3/4" framed.. . Note: Eliza C. McCullow was born September 27th, 1825, to parents Joseph McCullow (1787-1860) and Susannah T. Rockhill (1791-1870), who were married on August 5th, 1812 in New Jersey. Her seven siblings, Mary, Elizabeth W., Amanda O., Charles, Catherine T., Hannah M., and Joseph E., are listed in the record along with Eliza.. . . . Eliza's family moved to Greenwich, Huron Co., Ohio in the 1840s, where Eliza married John Jenney Jr. in 1845 and she died in 1861 at age 35.
