Hofzinser (Johann Nepomuk).- A set of three plated metal cups, originally the property of Hofzinser, 100mm. high, [19th century].*** The cups were apparently comissioned by Hofzinser and made from a special alloy in the 1860's. They were subsequently purchased by Keith Clark from Ottokar Fischer at the time that he was performing in a music hall in Vienna in 1928. He persuaded Fischer to part with the cups after Fischer had organized a party to celebrate Clark's honorary membership of the Vienna Magic Circle. They then became the property of Christian Fechner, from whom they were acquired by Bob Read in the I970's. A copy of Keith Clark's letter of authenticity and Ottokar Fischer's The Magic of Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser translated by Richard Hatch in which the cups are illustrated are included in the lot.
