Antique Regionalist WPA Navy Boat Modern Oil Painting
Item Details
Description
Up for sale here is an incredible find from our New York City estate. Stunning quality and really has a museum feel. The painting has that important look!! It's an oil on board from 1930 or so. We haven't found a signature. The family always thought this painting was by Thomas Hart Benton. Not signed, but certainly by someone of his caliber!! Please take a close look. Image size, 31H x 22L.Thank You to a gentleman who offered information on this piece. Thomas Benton and George Schreiber who hired by the US Navy to create war scenes. After doing further research, there are similarities in the present work and the works which are illustrated being done for the war scenes by Benton and Schreiber. More research will need to be done to conclusively say it was done by either one of the artists.
