Lot 0337 Details

Description
Two watercolors by Florence Robinson(Boston, 1874-1937. Owned by John W. Auchincloss and named the 'Hammersmith Farm' after the home town of the first settler. Hammersmith Farm is a Victorian mansion and the surrounding property located in Newport, Rhode Island, United States and was the childhood home to Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. The property hosted the wedding reception of Jacqueline and John F. Kennedy. During his presidency, Kennedy spent enough time at Hammersmith Farm that it was referred to as the "Summer White House." Notably, President Kennedy announced that John McCone would become the new Director of the Central Intelligence Agency during one of his stays at Hammersmith in late September 1961. Located on Harrison Ave. and overlooking Narragansett Bay, Newport, the house is no longer open to the public. It is currently owned by Peter Kiernan III. Each watercolor is presented in its original frame of flat chestnut or oak with a flute towards the outer edge and a gold liner. W/C #1 Work: 14" H x 22" W Frame: 19" H x 26 3/4" W
