‘Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist’ opens Oct. 2 at Whitney

NEW YORK – This fall, the Whitney Museum of American Art will present “Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist,” the first retrospective of this pioneering artist in New York City in more than two decades. One of the most important figures associated with the Harlem Renaissance, Motley was a master colorist with a daring sense of spatial invention, qualities he combined with keen observational skills honed on urban culture.

WILMINGTON, Del. – Winterthur is hosting “Tiffany Glass: Painting with Color and Light,” a major exhibition organized by the Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass in New York featuring some of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s (1848–1933) most iconic works, and “Tiffany: The Color of Luxury,” the Winterthur-curated companion exhibition exploring the Tiffany name in American culture. The exhibitions open Sept. 5 and run through Jan. 3.

BIEL/BIENNE, Switzerland – Actor Daniel Craig has made a special visit to the heart of the Swiss watchmaking industry for the inauguration of the Omega factory in Villeret.

Craig, who reprises his role as James Bond in SPECTRE, the 24th Bond adventure, was given a guided tour, as well as exclusive access to the factory’s assembly line. During the visit he was also shown production of the new Omega Seamaster 300 “SPECTRE” Limited Edition.

Syrian official: Amount of damage at Palmyra temple unclear

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) – A Syrian official in charge of antiquities said Monday his government has not been able to determine how much damage an explosion near the ancient Temple of Bel caused the ancient structure in the militant-controlled city of Palmyra.
