DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Wells Fargo plans to open a museum in downtown Des Moines, giving a boost to city plans for a key downtown street.

Don Pearson, a regional vice president, announced Tuesday the financial services company would open the Wells Fargo History Museum in the bank’s lobby in the Financial Center building on Walnut Street.

The 5,500-square-foot museum, which will include historical and interactive displays, is expected to open in fall 2016. It will be Wells Fargo’s 12th such museum.

Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie says the museum will aid efforts to revitalize Walnut Street. The city has plans to overhaul the street with LED lighting, benches and landscaping in hopes of attracting more residents and shops.
