The tag for this piece read ‘mahogany writing desk. Early 20th century. $900.’ A tag that might sell the desk more quickly would read ‘Carlton House desk variation based on Hepplewhite’s 1786 design. Colonial Revival style. Solid mahogany with satinwood inlay. Two lift top compartments, two drawers. Original hardware. Made in New York by George C. Flint, circa 1900. $900.’

PBA Galleries to sell great literature in miniature Aug. 18

SAN FRANCISCO – Beginning Aug. 18, PBA Galleries will present the Rico Onuma Memorial Auctions of miniature books from the Lilliput Saloon of Tokyo. Kazushige Onuma founded the first bookshop in the world devoted exclusively to miniature books in 1979 and named the store, in part, for its tiny oval shape. The shop was managed by Onuma’s daughter, Rico, until her untimely death last year and it has subsequently closed. PBA Galleries is offering much of the store’s inventory beginning with the Aug. 18 auction.

DETROIT (AP) – The owner of Detroit’s blighted Packard automobile plant complex is ready to begin a 10- to 15-year redevelopment if City Council approves a 12-year tax freeze.
