HOUSTON – Prince Castle Auctions, in just their second auction utilizing LiveAuctioneers’ bid platform, recorded outstanding results on April 1 for Asian art and antiques. More than 300 approved bidders participated in the online-only auction through LiveAuctioneers, accounting for $126,000 in sales. Numerous items in the 120-lot auction far exceeded presale estimates.

Understanding vintage furniture’s shifting values

This coffee table was one of the few pieces of furniture my wife’s grandmother bought new in the early 1930s. Since inheriting the table it has lived everywhere she has, including college housing. Is it valuable? You better believe it is to her.

Huge painting attributed to Qui Ying soars to $112,500 at Ahlers & Ogletree

ATLANTA – Asian lots took center stage at Ahlers & Ogletree’s March 25-26 Spring Salon Auction, as a monumental classical painting attributed to Ming painter Qiu Ying (Chinese, 1494-1552) soared to $112,500, and a pair of Chinese huanghuali hardwood side tables made in the first half of the 20th century made $26,550.
