Britain’s National Portrait Gallery acquires portrait of poet Dylan Thomas

LONDON – Britain’s National Portrait Gallery has acquired a portrait of Dylan Thomas by his close friend Augustus John, it was announced today, August 16, 2018. The portrait, which links two of the most significant cultural figures in 20th-century Britain, has been purchased with support from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, Art Fund and The Thompson Family Foundation.

1913 Liberty Head nickel auctioned for record $4.56M

PHILADELPHIA- Numismatic auction powerhouse Stack’s Bowers Galleries sold the rarest and most valuable U.S. nickel in existence for $4,560,000 million at their August 15 auction held at the American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money at Philadelphia’s Pennsylvania Convention Center. At this price it becomes one of the five most valuable coins ever sold at auction as well as the most valuable non-precious metal coin ever.

State supreme court justice bequeaths Remington bronzes to NJ museum

NEWARK, N.J. –The Newark Museum has announced the bequest of two American bronze sculptures from the collection of Justice Marie L. Garibaldi of Weehawken. Garibaldi, who died in 2016, was the first woman appointed to the New Jersey Supreme Court, and also the first woman to serve as President of the New Jersey Bar Association.
