BEVERLY, Mass. – Kaminski Auctions’ August Estate auction saw two days of strong sales and prices for everything from Regency furniture to European portraits.  The top lot of the sale held on Saturday, and Sunday, August 18-19, was a Julian Onderdonk oil on wood painting titled ‘Grey Morning’ from a Palm Beach, Florida estate. Onderdonk, who died at age 40, was an impressionist painter from Texas who studied under William Merritt Chase and is known “as the father of Texas painting.” The small painting measured five inches by nine inches and sold for $19,200.

Elvis and Priscilla’s auctioned mobile home returning to Mississippi

LOS ANGELES – The two-bedroom Delta mobile home once owned and used by Elvis and Priscilla Presley is headed back to its roots in Mississippi, according to its new owner. GWS Auctions, one of the world’s premier film and music memorabilia auction houses, sold the mobile home from the Presleys’ “Circle G Ranch” in an August 25, 2018 auction for $67,650. The winning bidder, Max Wiggins of  Kemah, Texas, stated his plans to repatriate the mobile home where fans can enjoy it.

Researchers hope some objects survived Brazil museum fire

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) – Researchers held out hope that a famed skull and other valuable objects might somehow be recovered from the ashes of a massive blaze that tore through Brazil’s National Museum after firefighters found bone fragments from the collection.

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (AP) – A pair of ruby slippers used in “The Wizard of Oz” and later stolen from a Minnesota museum were recovered in a sting operation after a man approached the shoes’ insurer and said he could help get them back, the FBI said Tuesday.
