Exploring the faces and forms of Henry Moore

Henry Spencer Moore (1898-1986) was a renowned English artist best known for his semi-abstract monumental bronze sculptures that can be seen around the world as public works of art. In addition to sculpture work, he also did innumerable drawings, including a series done during World War II that depicted Londoners seeking shelter from the German Blitz. But he’s most famous for his sculpted human forms that often depicted mother-and-child or reclining figures. Many of his works suggest the female body, especially the reclining nudes for which he is so well known.

Auction Team Breker thrives with the sounds of music

COLOGNE, Germany – On Nov. 9, Auction Team Breker offered the mechanical music collection of the late Luuk Goldhoorn, the famously private author and historian of Utrecht, The Netherlands. Goldhoorn was a respected and generous researcher, as a glance through the acknowledgments of almost any recent book on the mechanical music industry will confirm. In addition to his many detailed articles in the specialist press and contributions to the Dutch museum Speelklok in Utrecht. Goldhoorn was best remembered for his reference work on 19th-century Austrian musical boxes, which he described as a forgotten craft. After a buffet luncheon, speaker Cliff Wallach gave a presentation about the company Jasper 52, which is a marketing platform for weekly antique auctions.

Newark Museum to host important Steuben glass exhibition

NEWARK, N.J. – A sparkling, colorful gift of Steuben glass from The Thomas N. Armstrong III Collection will be on display in an upcoming exhibition at the Newark Museum. Unexpected Color: A Journey Through Glass, opening on April 28, 2019, showcases more than 130 works in glass designed by Frederick Carder for the famed Steuben Glass Works from 1903 to 1933 and used in a variety of settings by the collector.
