LONDON – Christie’s much-anticipated auction of the art collection of George Michael has realized £9.3 million / $12.3 million / €10.8 million. Proceeds from the auction Thursday will be used to continue the late British singer and songwriter’s philanthropic work.

At the height of the Great Irish Famine, John Caldwell Bloomfield, an amateur mineralogist, inherited an estate which encompassed Belleek, a village in County Fermanagh (today Northern Ireland). Devastated by the distress he witnessed, the young man vowed to return the village to prosperity. As luck would have it, his land held abundant amounts of raw materials required to produce ceramics. So true to his word, in 1857, Bloomfield founded the Belleek Pottery.

NEW YORK – Judith and Holofernes (1571-1610), the long-lost painting by Caravaggio, will be heading to Adam Williams Fine Art in New York for its only U.S. and North American exhibition May 10-17. The free and open exhibition will give the public a chance to view the masterpiece that was discovered five years ago in an attic in Toulouse, France, where it had lain forgotten for over 100 years.
