NEW YORK – Staffordshire pottery is beloved by collectors far beyond the shores of its native England. While potters in the Staffordshire region made many types of human and animal ceramic figures, perhaps none are more recognizable than their Victorian-era depictions of Cavalier King Charles spaniels (aka Staffordshire spaniels). They are also sometimes referred to as “hearth” or “mantel” spaniels, since they typically were displayed on fireplace mantels at the height of their popularity, circa 1840s-1890s. After the turn of the 20th century, their production quality seemed to decline, as did the number of collectors buying them, but they have never fallen out of favor.

CLAREMORE, Okla. – An 1864 J.M. Stevens & Co. presentation rifle engraved “from Buffalo Bill to Night-Hawk & Broncho Bill” scored a bull’s-eye for $18,125, and a pre-1845 S. Hawken Kentucky half-stock rifle rang out for $15,000 in an auction held July 26-28 by Holabird Western Americana Collections, at the J.M. Davis Museum exhibition celebrates art and life of Kanishka Raja

RAWR Act to authorize rewards for tips re: wildlife-trafficking crimes

WASHINGTON – If passed by the Senate, the Rescuing Animals with Rewards (RAWR) Act will authorize rewards to individuals who furnish information assisting in the prevention or identification of crimes related to wildlife trafficking, through an existing Department of State rewards program. This bill would provide another tool for law enforcement to use in cracking down on transnational organized criminal syndicates, and protect wildlife around the globe from poaching and illegal trafficking.
