PHILADELPHIA —  A silver plique-a-jour and cloisonne tankard will be the highlight of Freeman’s February 24 Gilded Age auction. Offered at an estimate of $30,000-$50,000, this tankard is a testament not only to the intricacy of 19th-century Russian metalwork, but also the strength of Russian-American diplomatic ties at the turn of the 20th century. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

BALTIMORE — The Walters Art Museum transports visitors back to the Victorian era with Majolica Mania, an exhibition that highlights the beauty and inventiveness of a once wildly popular ceramic with ties to Baltimore. Majolica Mania opens March 13 and is on view through August 7. Admission is free.
