NEW YORK – Capsule Auctions will present two auctions on Thursday, March 17: C2: March Art + Design will start at 11 am Eastern time and will include pieces by Ken Price, Ray and Charles Eames for Herman Miller, and Robert Rauschenberg, as well as mid-century modern design, Art Deco, and stylized works ranging from the abstract to the figurative. The second sale, titled 20th Century Art, begins at 3 pm Eastern time. A curated auction of contemporary art, it will feature works from the collection of Seymour Stein, the collection of Josie Natori, and the collection of Joyce Kootz, widow of renowned gallerist Sam Kootz. Polar explorer Shackleton’s ship found after a century

PORT STANLEY, the Falkland Islands – Researchers have discovered the remarkably well-preserved wreck of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton’s ship, Endurance, in 10,000 feet of icy water, a century after it was swallowed up by Antarctic ice during what proved to be one of the most heroic expeditions in history. A team of marine archaeologists, engineers and other scientists used an icebreaker ship and underwater drones to locate the wreck at the bottom of the Weddell Sea, near the Antarctica Peninsula. The Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust’s search expedition Endurance22 announced the discovery on March 9.

GLEN COVE, N.Y. – Sal Trupiano, president of Roland Auctions NY, knows the antiques business well. He spent four decades as an antiques dealer, but like so many of his contemporaries, saw antique sales shifting online. He closed down his antiques store three years ago and had barely begun his search for other opportunities when Roland’s owners, Billy and Robert Roland, offered him his present position.
