NEW YORK –  On Wednesday, May 4, at 10 am Eastern time, Doyle will hold an auction of American Paintings, Furniture & Decorative Arts. The sale showcases 18th- and 19th-century American furniture and decorative arts, including ceramics, mirrors, folk art, Chinese Export porcelain and rugs. This auction category is Doyle’s premier venue for 19th- and early 20th-century American paintings, including Hudson River School landscapes, Western and Regional art, still lifes, portraits, nautical scenes and folk paintings. Hindman’s $1.1M Native American art sale sets record for moccasins

CINCINNATI – The collection of Claude “Henry” Withers and the John Baldwin Trust led the way in Hindman’s $1,185,656 April 15 Native American Art auction. Copper items from the Withers collection received significant interest from bidders, packing Hindman’s Cincinnati saleroom and achieving top prices. Revered collector and author John Baldwin’s collection also shone, with lots such as a grizzly bear claw necklace selling for $37,500 against a presale estimate of $20,000-30,000. Textiles from the collection of Bruce and Claire Montgomerie also were among top performers.

JACKSON, Wyo. –  On May 14, the National Museum of Wildlife Art (NMWA) will open Scenes of Transcendent Beauty: Thomas Moran’s Yellowstone, an exhibition celebrating Yellowstone National Park’s 150th anniversary this year. The exhibition will be on view through August 23.

NEW YORK – Painted in April 1932, 90 years ago to the month, Femme nue couchee is one of Pablo Picasso’s most monumental and uninhibitedly sensual portrayals of Marie-Therese Walter. Appearing at auction for the first time, the large-scale painting is poised to achieve in excess of $60 million at Sotheby’s Modern Evening Auction on May 17, making it one of the most valuable portraits of Marie-Therese Walter ever offered at auction.
