CHATHAM, N.J. – Quan Rong Gallery’s Chinese art auction on Sunday, March 3, will feature a selection of 399 lots of Hetian jade statues, Shoushan stone statues, porcelain pots, wood sculptures, bronze statues, crystal and lapis lazuli jewelry, and more from prominent local collections and estate sales. One-hundred-percent natural Hetian jade hand-carved items form an important sector of this auction, such as a set of Hetian jade tea set consisting of a teapot, cups and tea caddy (above; est. $40,000-$50,000). The teapot and cups are a stunning pale green hue, while the caddy stores the set with ample room while also contributing to the pleasant aesthetic of the set.
Another beautiful item is a superb Hetian jade fisherman and fortune child statue (est. $15,000-$20,000). The fisherman (below) stands on a bank, looking toward the sea while the fortune child stands at his side.
This auction also features some expertly crafted porcelain pieces. The Qing Dy gilt gold famille rose porcelain vase is gorgeous (est. $5,000-$7,000). The vase wears beautiful paintings of peach trees and written text, as well as gilt gold details.
Another exquisite item is a superb set of Qing dynasty porcelain teapot and cups. Each piece features a deer in a unique pose in the same famille rose motif. The image of deer and pine trees together represents longevity. Each piece also features related written text.
Unusual items include the magnificent horn statues, such as a fantastic openwork ox horn incense burner decorated with inlaid gems (est. $4,000-$5,000). The cylindrical body features two horns and an ornate lid dotted with inlaid gems, all of which show fine low relief carving. The body sits on a small square base with beautiful openwork carving.
