NEW YORK – Showplace Antique & Design Center will hold a major sale of fine art, decorative objects, and natural history, with a focus on Asian antiques, Thursday, April 28, 2011. Internet live bidding will be provided by LiveAuctioneers.com.
A wide array of Asian antiques will be auctioned including a gilt bronze Chinese Sakyamuni Buddha estimated at $5,000-$7,000 that has remained in the same private New York collection for over 10 years. A fine 19th century soapstone figure carving is another highlight of the Chinese pieces being offered, estimated at $18,000-$20,000.
A number of decorative objects will be available, including a very delicate, iridescent Tiffany art glass floriform vase estimated at $9,000-$10,000. A collection of Russian silver and enamel pieces is being offered with expectations of reaching $6,000-$8,000. An ancient Egyptian Shapti for Amenemope is another important artifact, estimated at $4,000-$5,000. The turquoise-glazed piece dating to the 21st Dynasty (1090 – 945 BCE) is from a private collection.
Additionally, Showplace is venturing into the sale of natural history objects. A small collection of amber will be auctioned, including pieces of Dominican blue amber, several with encased animal and plant specimen. A small, polished piece with a lizard is estimated at $30,000-$40,000.
