$312,500 Gallé lamp first of many bright spots in Rago design auction

LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. – Rago Arts and Auction Center’s Design Auction brought in $6,423,688 over the course of its three days, Oct. 14-16. The “top lot” was lot 532, a Gallé allium form floor lamp, which sold for $312,500. Absentee and Internet live bidding was available through LiveAuctioneers.com.
Also of note, lot 1053, an exceptional dining table by Wharton Esherick (below) earned $200,000.
Lot 13, a rare wooden sculpture by François-Rupert Carabin, sold for $150,000.
A massive glass chandelier by Dale Chihuly brought $110,500.
The auction also saw strong sales of sizable collections of Yoichi Ohira glass and George Nakashima furniture, indicating that the market for these two makers continues to be robust.
More than 1,500 online bidders from 32 countries participated in the three-day auction.
