All eyes were on David Webb jewelry at Roland NY’s season closer
GLEN COVE, N.Y. – Roland Auctions NY presented its final winter auction on February 26, with David Webb jewelry performing markedly well. The sale, consisting of more than 750 lots, included art, prints, furniture, porcelain, textiles, silver, rugs, collectibles, Asian art and lighting from estates and collectors across the Northeast.
Two stunning David Webb pieces triumphed. A pair of David Webb 18K yellow gold and white gold earrings, set with pave diamonds weighing 6.88 carats, sold for for $15,000, and a David Webb 18K hammered yellow gold ring set with a kunzite stone and diamonds realized $10,000.
The top seller of the auction was Woman Kneeling, a 1956 mixed media work on paper by Chalood Nimsamer (Thai, 1929-2015). It depicts a kneeling woman holding a scythe, and it achieved $16,250.
Leading the decorative arts choices was an antique Chinese famille rose large cylindrical covered storage box, which sold for $7,500, and an Art Deco marble mantel clock with two bronze Japanese figural surmounts that rose to $2,500. A clear winner from the furnishings on offer was an English Regency-style mahogany circular extending dining table that sold for $5,000.
In addition, a unique 1925 Steinway & Sons Model XR grand piano with an ebony case realized $10,000. Originally a player piano, it was converted to a regular piano by having the player mechanism removed and its legs adapted.
Rounding out the roster of top performers was a pair of circa-1825 English Regency period rosewood chiffoniers with fine bronze mounts and green marble tops. It sold for $5,312.
