Bidders favored fine jewelry, silver at Capo Auction

NEW YORK – Select fine jewelry and impressive silver took the spotlight recently at Capo Auction Fine Art and Antiques’ July 30 auction in Long Island City. The sale also featured an outstanding of antique furniture and fine art.


Absentee and Internet live bidding was available through LiveAuctioneers.com.

One could sense the anticipation building in the room as the jewelry portion of the sale was coming up. There was a great deal of preauction attention at the previews and online for the top seller of the day, an Oscar Heyman sapphire and diamond ring (above), which sold for $10,800.

Considerable interest also surrounded the three-piece Asprey blue topaz and diamond Daisy Flower suite, which was being sold individually. The Asprey blue topaz and diamond Daisy Flower necklace (below) of 18K white gold, eleven daisy flowers, each set with eight blue topaz petals centering a round diamond separated with a bar link with diamond, 16 inches long, sold for $6,000, while the Daisy Flower bracelet sold for $4,800 and the Daisy Flower earrings sold for $2,040.

Online and telephone bidding quickly shot up on the lot of three watches consisting of a Mickey Mouse Ingersoll watch (parts) with original band, a Waltham pocket watch and an Omega Speedmaster Professional with stainless steel band. The lot (below) sold for $5,400.

Select lots of silver also highlighted the sale at Capo Auction. These included a set of Towle sterling silver flatware, 84 pieces of King Richard pattern, service for 12 twelve, which sold for $2,040. A partial set of Puiforcat sterling silver flatware in the Vauban pattern (below) total 1450 grams, sold for $1,800.

A Russian Neoclassical vase, early 20th century, St. Petersburg, marked with the imperial warrant, maker’s mark of Ivan Ekimovich Morozov, went for $1,920. The tapered body of the 10 1/2-inch vase (below) had a raised decoration of a soldier on horseback within a bow ribbon tied laurel leaf garland.

Various items continued to sell well in all categories throughout the auction, including furniture. Highlights included a late 18th century George III inlaid mahogany drum-top library table, 48 inches in diameter, which went for $3,000. A Rhode Island-style mahogany block front desk (below) in the manner of John Goddard sold for $4,000. A Regency mahogany sideboard sold for $2,160.

A Qum-style silk rug having a central medallion on a rust colored field with ivory spandrels and allover floral decoration, 4 feet 3 inches by 6 feet 7 inches, sold for $2,520.

Two oil on paper paintings by Leopoldo Richter (German/Columbian, 1896-1984) topped the fine art offerings. His Orange Woman and Horse, 1962, sold for $1,920, and the his Abstract Woman sold for $1,800.
